Beavers are the youngest section of our Scouting Family, and is open to boys and girls aged between 6 and 8. We meet on a Monday evening from 6:15pm – 7:30pm at our HQ on Earlswood Road. Joining Beavers is the beginning of your Scouting adventure.

What do Beavers do?

The Beaver Scout Motto is “Fun and Friends” and this accurately describes our weekly meetings. Our Beaver Colony enjoys:

  • Mastering new skills and trying new things
  • Having fun and going on adventures
  • Making friends
  • Singing songs, playing games and crafting
  • Learning about the world around them
  • Helping others and making a difference, on their own doorsteps and beyond

Earlswood 2nd Reigate use OSM (Online Scout Manager) portal to manage all the activities, badges and the parent rota for the group. link

Beaver Promise

As well as enjoying plenty of adventures, being a Beaver is about exploring who you are and what you stand for. These are big ideas, and when you join the Colony, you’ll start thinking about them by making a promise. A promise is a set of words that mean something to you, which you try to follow everyday.

Making the promise is a big celebration within the Colony. Every time a new Beaver decides to join, they talk through their promise with their leader before saying it out loud in front of their fellow Beavers. We also invite the Beavers’ family to come and watch.

Doing this is called being ‘invested’ into Beavers, and it usually takes place once you’ve had a few weeks to settle in. Investing costs £20 per child.

Everyone is unique but there are some things all Beavers agree on – such as treating everyone with kindness and promising to do their best. Depending on their own beliefs, they might also promise to live by their faith. Beavers choose the promise that best suits them. Options can be found here.

Beaver Uniform

Beavers wear blue sweatshirts with our light blue and dark blue Group scarf (sometimes called a necker).

Before you are invested, you’ll be expected to purchase your own Beaver sweatshirt. The Scout Shop is located in our HQ and we have second-hand uniform available to purchase too. The Group scarf with woggle, will be awarded to the Beaver when they are invested into the Group.

Light blue Group t-shirts are also available to purchase for £5 each, this is an optional purchase, but encouraged for camps.

You’ll wear your uniform to all meetings, to camps and on trips away. Uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone to feel a part of the Colony. It also gives you a place to show off all the Beaver badges you earn. For help with positioning of badges, please refer to our Beaver Uniform Guide

On your first night at Beavers, you’ll be taking part in lots of activities, and should just wear something you feel comfortable in.

How to Join Beavers

Our Beaver Colony is especially popular, this means that demand for places is particularly high. If you would like to put your child’s name down on the waiting list please click here. Our subs (the amount you pay for your child to be in our Scout Group) are £25 per child, per term.

If you have any questions about accessibility, it’s best to pop us an email in addition to your application. If you would like to chat to a Beaver Leader, please contact us.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
