Explorer Scouts are girls and boys aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family. Our Explorers meet every Wednesday from 7.45pm to 9.30pm at our HQ on Earlswood Road.
What do Explorers do?
Do more. See more. Try more. At Explorers, you’ll stand on your own two feet and make memories to last a lifetime. Our Explorers:
- Discover the world through travel and adventures
- Lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Group, with support and guidance from Leaders – from camping and caving, to abseiling and archery.
- Create a flexible and active Scouting programme, with an emphasis on personal challenge and adventure.
- Develop essential skills for life and work through enrolling onto the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Queen’s/ King’s Scout Award.
Explorers also have the opportunity to become young leaders on the Explorers Young Leaders’ Scheme (EYLS) in our Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. A valuable asset to any leadership team, ESYLs play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table, and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.
Earlswood 2nd Reigate use OSM (Online Scout Manager) portal to manage all the activities, badges and the parent rota for the group. link
Explorer Uniform
Explorers wear beige shirts with our light blue and dark blue Group scarf (sometimes called a necker).
Before you are invested, you’ll be expected to purchase your own Explorer shirt. The Scout Shop is located in our HQ and we have second-hand uniform available to purchase too. For help with positioning of badges, please refer to our Explorer Uniform Guide.
