AGM: June 2022

It was fantastic to see so many young people and their parents at our Annual General Meeting. Thanks to the Explorers for entertaining the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with their obstacle course, a rope bridge crossing challenge and rainbow rock painting. A lot of fun was had, allowing the parents to learn all about the activities, camps and fundraising events Earlswood 2nd Reigate Scout Group have been embarking on over the past year.

In addition to the highlights from the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorer sections, we heard from our Chairman, John Van Hoof and our GSL, Steve Parker about the fundraising gearing up again to hopefully be able to “Build Our New Scouting Home” for our very dilapidated HQ. We also learnt about the success of our volunteer recruitment drive so far – but how we need more support.

The Exec Committee is now full, but anyone wanting to volunteer as a Section Leader or Occasional Helper would be warmly welcomed. There are lots of ways you can get involved. From helping a Leader run an activity on the common, to buttering 120 slices of bread for a group of hungry 11 year olds – no two Scout meetings are the same.

Earlswood 2nd Reigate Scout Group have a waiting list of over 100 children and additional adult volunteers, along with a new Scouting Home (at some point) will help the Group to grow.

The other highlight of the AGM was learning about the incredible commitment of the current Leaders with the majority of them receiving awards over the past year. This year’s AGM was joined by Margaret Tilford (Cubs Assistant District Commissioner) and Andrew Bolton (District Commissioner) from Surrey District Scouts who awarded:

  • Helen Luff (Cub Leader) – 5 year Service Award
  • Di Davies (Group Treasurer & trustee) – 5 year Service Award
  • Paul Wateridge (Explorers) – Wood Badge
  • Steve Parker (GSL) – Good Service Merit Award for 12 years of Outstanding Service
  • Joe (Beaver Young Leader & Explorer) – Chief Scouts Platinum Award

Marcus Martin Burns (District Youth Commissioner) also awarded YouShape Awards to our Explorers who have successfully completed this challenge. Well done to Milo, Zac, Josh, Harry, Jacob, Oscar & Sachin.
