Earlswood Carnival
Earlswood Carnival: April 2022
The sun shone, dogs competed to have the waggiest tail, faces were splatted, the beer tent was drunk dry and the community of Earlswood came to support in their hundreds.
After a two year Covid enforced absence the 5th Earlswood Carnival on Woodlands Road Green returned on Saturday 23rd April with a massive turn out. Showcasing over 30 local independent businesses and organised by Earlswood 2nd Reigate Scout Group, we set out to support local and strengthen the Earlswood community – and boy did we do it!
Sponsored by Fidelity, Nestle, Cloud2me, Hound & Porter and Honeybee Mortgage Solutions, the 2022 Carnival was a jam-packed afternoon that was heaving with people, as visitors enjoyed the unexpectedly sunny weather in a lovely friendly atmosphere. We raised a fantastic £5000 towards our campaign to raise money to ‘Build a New Scouting Home’ and would like to thank everyone who came and spent money and had fun!
The Carnival featured the return of many popular stalls and attractions including Punch & Judy, Hula Hooping workshop, the Beaver leader run Burger Tent, Flower Crowns, Splat the Leader, Tug of War, the #tuneinyouwont Acoustic Tent, as well as our ever-popular Best Victoria Sponge Cake Sponge Competition – judged by Neil Munday from Susy Radio, who broadcast the judging live on the air waves and Gem Smith from Gorgeous Gem’s bakery, who stepped in at the last minute to judge. Libery Parker aged 8 won the junior category and was over the moon.
The event also showcased the return of our Dog Show with over 30 dogs entered into the Waggiest Tail, Best Trick, Dog Who Looks Most Like Their Owner and Best Junior Handler categories. Judged by Nikki Reynolds from BarknStroll and Kayleigh Abbott of Misfits K9 Bakery who provided the Pupcake prizes which were very well received.
A massive thank you to our sponsors; to the Leaders, volunteers and their families for all their hardwork; to the parents and Explorers for donating bottles for the tombola and helping with setting up/ derigging; to Susy Radio for their live coverage of the whole event; and to all Earlswood folk (and beyond) who came to support us.
