Explorers Narrow Boat Adventure

Date: 15th Oct 2022 Author: Scout Websites

On a sunny autumn weekend in 2022, 7 Explorers and 4 Leaders embarked on a screen-free, Narrow Boat adventure along the Grand Union Canal. Armed with sturdy boots to operate the locks and the value of patience to enjoy the slow ambience of the canal, our Explorers all had a fantastic weekend.

Narrowboats may be narrow, but they’re also very long and have to be steered down skinny waterways. The Earlswood 2nd Reigate Explorer crew were well-coordinated to adjust the steering and throttle to navigate these. Blessed with fantastic weather, everyone was able to sit in the sun as they cruised along the canal. They also enjoyed cooking in tight living quarters and practising knot tying when mooring the boat.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
