Summer Rounders Sessions 21st/2th July & 4th/11th August 2022

We hosted 4 fantastic, free Summer Rounders sessions for the Earlswood Community over the summer holidays. Around 60 non-Scouting children attended across the 4 weeks and a handful of our Beavers and Cubs. The last session culminated in a massive adults vs kids game, which was a lot of fun. As well as learning the rules of Rounders and how to play, the kids also worked on hand-eye coordination, catching and throwing skills, batting and running. They also learnt, through play about the importance of communication within their team. For those who attended several sessions, we saw a real improvement in their batting, bowling and fielding skills, as well as some noticeably tactic development.

Cub Leader Bagheera (Andreas) says that one of his highlights was “seeing new friendships blossoming between the children. We were blessed with 2 Ukranian refugee families attending as they are being hosted locally, and saw our posters. Their English was very limited, but by the end of the sessions they had a good understanding of the rules and could understand key terms they heard us yelling, such as stump it, no ball, run, stop, out, drop the bat, and catch it!”

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
